The Wheel Returns to Spain with Arturo Valls

Warner Bros. International Television Production Spain and Atresmedia have started production on a new season of The Wheel, reviving the internationally successful format three years after its Spanish launch and introducing Arturo Valls as the show’s new presenter. The format first premiered in Spain on Atresmedia in 2023 under the title El círculo de los famosos, quickly establishing itself as the most-watched programme of the night and leading its time slot. The debut season achieved an 11.8% audience share and attracted more than 3.1 million unique viewers.

In The Wheel, a contestant takes the hot seat at the centre of a giant revolving wheel, facing questions across a range of categories. Around the edge, a panel of celebrity experts are ready to share their expertise, or sometimes their terrible guesses. Land on the right celebrity and the prize pot grows quickly, but one wrong spin can change everything. Ultimately, one final question and one big decision stand between one contestant and a major cash win.

Created by Hungry McBear and launched on BBC One in the UK in 2020, The Wheel has now aired for six seasons, with over 60 episodes to date. It is firmly established as a primetime entertainment hit, regularly drawing huge audiences and earning major award recognition, including BAFTA and Rose d’Or nominations.
The format has also been adapted in multiple territories, including Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, and the US, where original UK host Michael McIntyre also fronted the series.

Warner Bros. International Television Production Spain is one of the leading production companies in the Spanish market. For 25 years, it has adapted and produced unscripted and scripted series for all major channels, including WBITVP’s First Dates and global third-party entertainment formats such as Kitchen Nightmares and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Andrew Zein, EVP Creative Format Development and Sales at WBITVP, says
: “The Wheel is exactly the kind of format that continues to build with each new market and each new season. Seemingly simple at its core, it delivers real scale and impact on screen. Its performance in the UK shows the strength of the brand as a returning primetime title, and this reboot in Spain demonstrates how effectively it can be refreshed for new audiences. With Arturo Valls bringing a new energy to the show, we see this as another strong step in the format’s ongoing international journey.”

Carmen Ferreiro, Head of Entertainment at Atresmedia, adds:
“For Atresmedia, the renewal of The Wheel represents a continued commitment to a highly successful international format that has proven its capacity to adapt and grow in every market. It is a programme that, starting from a seemingly simple premise, delivers a strong on-screen spectacle and connects very directly with prime time audiences. This new chapter in Spain, with Arturo Valls at the helm, strengthens our commitment to large-scale, distinctive entertainment with long-term potential, a format capable of evolving and continuing to attract new viewers season after season.”
