Beta Film has secured a series of major deals with leading French broadcasters and platforms, further strengthening the reach of its European scripted slate across the territory. Among the headline agreements, CANAL+ has acquired both seasons of the UK crime drama Bookish for its crime-focused channel POLAR+, while NBCUniversal-backed pay-TV network 13ème Rue has picked up Professor T, the long-running British crime series starring Ben Miller. CANAL+ has also taken the German crime movie cycle Death in Denmark, while HBO Max France has boarded the second season of Dutch royal drama Maxima, which premiered on April 29.
Bookish, set to launch on May 16 on CANAL+/POLAR+, has already been sold in more than 100 territories worldwide. The series debuted strongly on UKTV in the UK, drawing an average audience of 1.5 million viewers and ranking as the channel’s second-highest premiere to date. Set in post-war London, the series blends period aesthetics with a contemporary tone. The 12x1h drama is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, part of ITV Studios, in association with Happy Duck Films.
Professor T continues its global expansion, now sold in nearly 120 territories. The series, which returns for a fifth season, follows Cambridge criminologist Professor Jasper Tempest, played by Ben Miller, alongside Frances de la Tour as his mother. Produced by Eagle Eye Drama for ITV and PBS, the 30x1h series is distributed worldwide by Beta Film, with PBS Distribution handling North American rights.
In the unscripted feature space, Death in Denmark has delivered standout results in Germany, achieving the highest market share for a Thursday crime film in over two years. Produced by EIKON Media for ARD Degeto, the 4x2h movie cycle follows Danish police officers tackling complex cases rooted in both historical and contemporary crime.
Meanwhile, Maxima continues its international rollout following strong global performance. The series, which chronicles the life of the Dutch royal family, has been sold in 85 territories and has posted strong ratings across multiple markets, including the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark and Spain, as well as Top 10 rankings on HBO’s Max in Latin America. Produced by Millstreet Films in co-production with FBO and Beta Film, the second season follows the evolving relationship between Maxima and Willem-Alexander as they prepare for their royal wedding. A third season is currently in development, alongside a spin-off titled The Other Royals – A Maxima Story.
