Movistar Plus+ continues to strengthen its international footprint after its original series I Always Sometimes won the Best Screenplay award at CANNESERIES. Created by Marta Bassols and Marta Loza, who co-wrote the series alongside Almudena Monzú, the show is produced in collaboration with Suma Content and stars Ana Boga and David Menéndez. The cast also includes Paco Tous, Belén Ponce de León, María de Medeiros and Diane Guerrero.
The recognition comes as both I Always Sometimes and Many People Need To Die were selected for the Official Long Form Competition at CANNESERIES—one of only eight titles worldwide—highlighting the growing global profile of Movistar Plus+ original fiction.
The festival also served as a key international showcase for both productions. Many People Need To Die, created by Victoria Martín and co-directed with Sandra Romero and Nacho Pardo, will premiere on the platform on May 21 following its Cannes debut. The series is produced with Corte y Confección de películas and Living Producciones, and stars Anna Castillo, Macarena García, Laura Weissmahr and Sofía Otero, alongside Alba Galocha, Óscar de la Fuente, Ramón Rados and Yunez Chaib.
This double presence in the Official Competition further consolidates Movistar Plus+’s track record at CANNESERIES, where it has earned significant recognition in recent years, including wins for Perfect Life and The Left-Handed Son, as well as a selection for El Inmortal.
I Always Sometimes, now available in full on the platform, centers on Laura, who becomes pregnant shortly after meeting Rubén in a relationship shaped by love and drug use. Months after the birth of their son, the couple separates, leaving Laura to raise the child largely on her own. The series explores her journey through motherhood with a mix of vulnerability, resilience and emotional intensity.
Both I Always Sometimes and Many People Need To Die are distributed internationally by Movistar Plus+ International, reinforcing the company’s strategy to scale Spanish-language originals to global audiences.
