SLL’s historical drama Sacred Jewel Makes World Premiere At Canneseries
SLL’s historical drama Sacred Jewel has made its world premiere at the 9th Cannes International Series Festival, where it was officially selected for the non-competition RENDEZ-VOUS section as part of the Korea Fiction program. The premiere screening took place at the Auditorium Jean Mineur in the Palais des Festivals, drawing more than 300 attendees, including international buyers and industry professionals, signaling strong early interest in the large-scale Korean period series.

Ahead of the screening, director Jung Dae-yoon joined lead actors Ahn Bo-hyun and Claudia Kim for a guest session with audiences in Cannes. “The 13th-century Goryeo dynasty was one of the most turbulent periods in Korean history, but I wanted to depict how the characters could still find love and growth through their adventures,” said Jung. “I hope that through this journey to find the Sacred Jewel (Gwaneum Boju), viewers who feel stuck in their comfort zones can find the courage to take their own leap,” he added. The premiere was met with sustained applause, highlighting strong global appetite for the series.
Later, the production team took part in the festival’s pink carpet, with SLL CEO Park Joonsuh, director Jung Dae-yoon, writer Jung Hyun-min, and stars Ahn Bo-hyun and Claudia Kim in attendance. Ahn drew attention for his portrayal of Baek Gyul, leader of an elite warrior convoy, while Kim was praised for her role as Princess Gyeonghwa (Wang Hee), the Emperor’s youngest daughter.

Set in 1258 during the Mongol invasions of the Goryeo dynasty, the series follows a group of elite warriors tasked by the Emperor with retrieving the Sacred Jewel (Gwaneum Boju), a divine relic believed to protect the kingdom. As they journey across enemy lines toward the eastern sea, a princess embarks on her own mission to save them. Following its international debut, Sacred Jewel is set to launch in Korea on JTBC and Coupang Play, with a global rollout on Prime Video in the second half of 2026.
