BBC Unveils First-Look Images for Ludwig Season Two as Hit Comedy-Drama Expands Cast
The BBC has released first-look images from the highly anticipated second season of Ludwig, the acclaimed detective comedy-drama starring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, set to premiere later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. The new season also introduces Mark Bonnar and Sian Clifford as series regulars.
Created and written by Mark Brotherhood, Ludwig is produced by Big Talk Studios (part of ITV Studios) in association with That Mitchell and Webb Company. The first season became the BBC’s biggest scripted title since 2024 and the strongest comedy launch episode since at least 2018, drawing more than 9.5 million viewers within 28 days.

Season two picks up directly from the events of the first instalment, with master puzzle-setter John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor (Mitchell) now officially working as a Crime Scene Consultant alongside DCI Russell Carter (Dipo Ola) on a series of seemingly ‘impossible’ cases for the Cambridge Police Authority. No longer impersonating his twin brother, John is now fully embracing his eccentric genius—brilliant at solving puzzles, yet struggling with everyday life.

The six-part, one-hour series is co-produced with BritBox and ZDF for the BBC, with ITV Studios handling international distribution. It was commissioned by Jon Petrie, BBC Director of Comedy. Mark Brotherhood returns as writer, with George Kane directing episodes one to three and Stella Corradi directing episodes four to six.
