In the last week of February, the international television industry once again gathered in the UK for the London Screenings (London, February 23-27, 2026) , now firmly established as one of the key moments of the global distribution calendar. Among the headline events was the BBC Studios Showcase, the company’s flagship annual presentation, which this year marked a significant milestone: 50 years of bringing together international buyers, producers and creatives to discover new British content and build partnerships across the industry. This year’s line-up combined new launches with established global brands that continue to travel successfully across territories.
New Unscripted Format Launches
Secret Genius
At the heart of the new unscripted slate
is Secret Genius, an uplifting competition format that explores the idea
that many people may possess extraordinary intellectual abilities without
realizing it.
Developed in collaboration with Mensa,
the format invites ordinary people with exceptional brains to discover whether
they might, in fact, be a hidden genius. Contestants from all walks of life
compete in a series of immersive challenges designed to test multiple
aspects of innate intelligence, from logical reasoning and spatial
awareness to problem solving and creativity.
Participants advance through regional
heats, with the competition gradually narrowing until the final two
competitors face off in a decisive showdown. Designed with strong play-along
appeal for viewers at home, the format blends entertainment with a sense of
personal discovery, inviting audiences to rethink what intelligence really
means.
Secret Genius is produced by Mothership Productions and WPP Media Motion
Entertainment Limited for Channel 4.
Just One Thing
Another notable addition to the slate is Just
One Thing, an inspirational factual format focused on simple,
science-backed lifestyle changes that can significantly improve wellbeing.
Each episode focuses on a single habit supported by scientific research that can boost either mental or physical health. From dancing to improve cardiovascular fitness to gardening as a way to lower blood pressure, the series examines accessible ways people can enhance their daily lives.
Travelling across the UK, the hosts invite
real participants to adopt these small but powerful changes, demonstrating how one
practical action can produce measurable benefits. The format taps into the
growing demand for clear, actionable wellbeing advice, cutting through
the confusion of conflicting health information.
The series is produced by the BBC
Studios Science Unit for the BBC.
These new titles join a catalogue of
unscripted global hits distributed by BBC Studios, including The 1% Club,
Nation’s Dumbest, Weakest Link, Dancing With The Stars and
The Great Bake Off. Ahead of Showcase, BBC Studios also revealed that The
1% Club has now been adapted in 15 territories, with Italy and
Sweden among the latest markets to commission local versions.
