Sphere Abacus Expands Its True Crime Slate With Hollywood And The Mob
Sphere Abacus has secured a third title in its growing MOB true crime franchise with "Hollywood and the Mob" (working title), a three-part documentary series exploring the hidden relationship between organized crime and the film industry. Produced by four-time Emmy-nominated Dash Pictures, the project has already been pre-sold to AMC Networks in the US and Canada and to SBS in Australia.

Directed by Thomas Patterson and executive produced by Daniel Sharp and Jack Oliver, "Hollywood and the Mob" uncovers how the Mafia quietly controlled key aspects of the movie business for decades. The series traces the explosive true story of how mobsters, studio executives and movie stars were bound together by money, power and the allure of Hollywood.

Spanning from the improvised film sets of the 1910s to the corporate boardrooms of the 1980s and 1990s, the documentary reveals how organized crime infiltrated every level of the industry. The series presents a century-long saga of ruthless ambition and exposes the dangerous figures who secretly ran Hollywood from behind the scenes.

The new commission follows the strong international performance of the first two titles in the MOB collection. "Marilyn and the Mob" has recently been sold to AMC Networks (US and Canada), SBS (Australia), Channel 4 (UK and Ireland), Sky (German Europe) and L7 (Italy). "Elvis and the Mob" has also traveled widely, with sales to SBS (Australia), Channel 4 (UK and Ireland) and RTL (German Europe).

Sphere Abacus Managing Director Jonathan Ford said, “The ‘MOB’ series demonstrates the growing interest in programming that cleverly combines true crime with history. We’re very pleased to announce these initial sales to international broadcasters with more to come, and to be once again working with the creative team at Dash Pictures.”
