Peruvian project “Huayo” wins at CIIF Market 2025
The 21st edition of the Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market) concluded after a week filled with professional activities, pitching sessions, and international meetings that reinforced the Canary Islands as a key hub for global audiovisual co-production.

One of the highlights was the screening of “Bajo un volcán”, attended by its lead actor William Levy, who also stars in its sequel “Bajo un fuego”, recently filmed in Tenerife.

CIIF Market Director Guillermo Ríos reported over 500 meetings this year, praising the outstanding quality of the projects and the continued growth of the event as a benchmark for international collaboration. Pablo Martín Carbajal, CEO of PROEXCA, emphasized the strategic importance of the audiovisual industry for the Canary Islands and the market’s role in fostering real business opportunities and qualified employment.

During the closing ceremony, the CIIF Market 2025 Awards recognized projects with strong international potential, creative innovation, and sustainability.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Award for Best International Projection went to “Huayo”, an animated feature from Audiovisual Films (Peru). The film follows Huayo, a magical fruit born from the world’s oldest tree, who embarks on an epic journey to save the last sacred forest of the Amazon from destruction.

Other winners included “Mansa” by Digital 104, “El Dolor del Miembro Fantasma”, “Puntales”, “Menarquía”, “5 Días Con Ana”, “Todo Va Bien”, “El Derrumbe”, “Un Bolero Para Ita”, and “Rocasanta”.

Ríos closed by thanking all participating institutions and professionals: “Reaching our 21st edition reaffirms that CIIF Market is not only a meeting point, but a space that continues to create real value for the audiovisual sector.”
