Funny Sabotages

Funny Sabotages
Among the unscripted genres, the prank show is one of the oldest (and one of my favourite), with the ‘historical’ US programme Candid Camera having been on air in various versions and broadcasters since 1948, though it first appeared on the radio as The Candid Microphone on 28 June 1947. It is certainly one of the funniest genres, if not the funniest. Soon after, more elaborate and structured formats than simple candid camera segments were created to add a new twist and surprise.

A recent example is Celebrity Sabotage, produced by Lifted Entertainment and set to be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX as part of ITV’s upcoming MipCom market slate.
A team of celebrities work together to sabotage unknowing members of the public, in order to win them a big cash prize. In each episode a set of unsuspecting contestants arrive, believing they’re participating in a brand-new ITV show (cooking challenge, relationship tests, business tasks and even murder mystery games). Little do they know that these shows are completely made up!
To make them even more convincing, these fake shows feature familiar and ‘official’ faces of the channel as hosts. Everyone involved — from the celebrity saboteurs and crew to the famous presenters — knows the truth.

The contestants believe they are competing to win an incredible prize, but hidden away in a secret headquarter, Celebrity Saboteurs are watching their every move, carrying out missions designed to disrupt their success. The more sabotage missions completed undetected, the greater the prize—but if a Celebrity Saboteur is caught, the contestant face a difficult decision
Every successfully executed sabotage mission will add more money to a secret prize pot. At the end of each episode, this pot will be revealed and shared equally among all the contestants - a complete surprise for them…
