Oble
Studios announces additional agreements for the Nordic drama series "Nepobaby"
in key English-speaking markets, with CBC for CBC Gem in Canada and SBS in
Australia. The show, created by Henriette Steenstrup (Pørni) and Siri
Seljeseth (Young & Promising), already received the Best Screenplay
and Special Interpretation Award at Canneseries during its global debut this
spring, and will now be highlighted in the Panorama section of the Serielizados
Festival in Barcelona.
“Collaborating
with such committed and valuable partners on this series is truly rewarding.
Their confidence clearly underlines the quality and impact of the drama, which
is already positioning itself as a distinctive title in the global arena. We
anticipate finalizing further agreements during MIPCOM,” stated Katia Sol,
Co-founder of Oble.
"Nepobaby", which examines the theme of
inherited privilege, has now been acquired by TV2 in Denmark and SVT in Sweden,
in addition to RÚV in Iceland announced previously, with Nordisk Film
overseeing Nordic distribution.
Jes
Brandhoj, Director of Sales & Series Acquisitions at Nordisk Film,
commented: “We are thrilled to have such trusted and solid partners in TV2
Denmark, SVT Sweden, and RÚV Iceland on board even before Nepobaby
premieres in Norway.” He added: “Their early engagement is an incredible
endorsement of a series we believe will resonate strongly with audiences
throughout the Nordics. With its blend of humor, warmth, and relatable family
drama, Nepobaby embodies the kind of uplifting storytelling that brings
people together, and we can’t wait to watch it unfold on their platforms.”
This debut
season centers on Emma (Vivild Falk Berg), a recently graduated physiotherapist
who has just purchased her first home with her fiancé, Niko (Deniz Kaya). She
envisions an intimate wedding, but Niko’s large extended family harshly
highlights how small her own is: no siblings, no father, only her mother, Mona.
Her life is abruptly transformed when she learns she is the hidden daughter of
shipping tycoon Ludvig “Doddo” Bullmann. Suddenly named in his will and placed
on equal footing with four siblings she never knew, Emma must grapple with
issues of fortune, heritage, and belonging—while realizing that the family she
has always desired might not welcome her at all.
The series
is produced by Eldorado Content Club for TV2 in Norway, directed by Gunnar
Vikene and Hallvar Witzø, with Oble Studios managing worldwide distribution
together with Nordisk Film handling rights sales across the Nordic region.
