Pedralonga
Estudios took advantage of the San Sebastian Film Festival to celebrate the
launch and start of operations of Coruña Estudio Inmersivo (CEI) –Coruña
Immersive Studio–, a virtual soundstage with the best technical equipment in
Spain and a leader in the new generation of immersive filming in Europe.
González Formoso president of Deputación da Coruña, highlighted the importance of CEI as “an infrastructure that connects two key sectors for the future of Galicia: media and technology”, noting that this project will strengthen the region's ability to attract local and international shootings. He also highlighted the public-private partnership model that has made this state-of-the-art production facility possible: co-financed by Deputación da Coruña and the Spanish Government through the Next Generation EU Funds, CEI is managed by Pedralonga Estudios S.L., a company set up in 2024 by CLAG, the University of A Coruña and ten leading Galician companies.
Jesús
Herrero, chief executive officer of the public entity Red.es, emphasised “how
important it is for us to share the start of CEI's operations, not only because
of the five-million-euro contribution to make this project a reality, but also
because it is a great example of public-private collaboration to promote the
media industry. The virtual production revolution is no longer a promise for
the future; it is a reality thanks to projects like this one.”
As a
representative of the Galician audiovisual sector, Alfonso Blanco stated that
the promotion of this cutting-edge infrastructure will benefit the entire
national film and production service industry. “Pedralonga Estudios and CEI
complete a perfect cocktail that positions Galicia as the ideal filming
destination”, offering other attractions such as its more than 30 years of
experience, internationally renowned production companies, first-rate crew and
talent, unrivalled landscape diversity, and public subsidies that facilitate
co-production and encourage the attraction of film shoots.
The president of Pedralonga Estudios, Fernanda Tabarés highlighted the competitive advantages of CEI: “It has a total area of over 2,000 sqm, which includes the 750 m² virtual studio with a 28 x 6m LED wall and 1.9-pixel pitch definition”, technical resources with which CEI aims to position itself at the forefront of European virtual production. This infrastructure will be joined in 2026 by two more soundstages measuring 2,500 and 2,000 sqm, currently under construction, designed to provide comprehensive production services with additional facilities. “Our shared goal is to offer the ultimate technology at the service of creativity and industry at competitive prices”.
