BBC Studios Picks Up Magnum’s Wisdom of the Crowd for UK and International Rollout

BBC Studios today announced it will distribute Wisdom of the Crowd, a brand-new gameshow format from Magnum Productions. The format has already secured its first international licence with Mediaset España, even before its UK debut.

Created by the team behind the global hit The 1% Club, Wisdom of the Crowd has been commissioned by the BBC for the UK and will be adapted in Spain by Brutal Media, part of BBC Studios Global Production, for Telecinco.

This primetime entertainment format combines humour with fast-paced gameplay and invites viewers at home to play along. In each episode, individual contestants go head-to-head against a group of 200 studio participants, answering unique number-based questions. Contestants must beat the average guess of the crowd to win a cash prize—otherwise, their money is added to a growing jackpot that will be split among the 200 at the end of the series. Turning the audience into active players, the format delivers the ultimate David vs. Goliath gameshow experience.

The concept draws inspiration from the early 20th-century theory of “crowd wisdom,” developed by scientist Francis Galton, who demonstrated that the average of a group’s answers can be more accurate than that of any single individual.

Wisdom of the Crowd will air on BBC One in the UK, with the TX date to be announced, and on Telecinco in Spain in primetime next season.

The format joins BBC Studios’ extensive quiz and game show catalogue, which includes The 1% Club (now airing in 12 territories), The Weakest Link, Nation’s Dumbest, Silence is Golden, Bridge of Lies and the recently announced The Inner Circle.

Audiences can learn more about Wisdom of the Crowd at BBC Studios Presents: Premium Unscripted Formats, a one-off session at MIPCOM on Monday 13 October, 15:30–16:30 CET in Auditorium K, highlighting breakthrough unscripted formats and future trailblazers.
