According to the latest semi-annual report from Social Intelligence, a key metric for measuring the social impact of audiovisual productions, Netflix has solidified its dominant position across Europe during the first half of 2025. The report, which weights various online sources including social buzz, official website traffic, Google Trends, and piracy, reveals a clear picture of viewer engagement and platform loyalty. A single Social Intelligence (SI) unit is composed of four weighted sources: social buzz (50%), official websites traffic (25%), piracy (20%), and Google Trends (15%).
Globally, Netflix's leadership is undeniable, capturing a 23.4% share of the market's social interest. This figure is almost four times that of its closest competitor, Amazon Prime Video, which holds 6.2%. Disney+ rounds out the top three globally with a 5.8% share, followed by Apple TV+ (4.6%) and Max (4.4%).
Platform Performance by Country
This strong performance is echoed in key European markets:
Spain: Netflix leads with a 26.2% share of social interest, nearly doubling its closest competitor, Atresplayer, which holds the second position with 13.4%.
United Kingdom: Netflix commands 24.37% of the interest, maintaining a solid lead over its closest competitor, Sky Go, which holds the second position with 14.23%.
Italy: Netflix’s dominance is even more pronounced, with a 33.80% share, maintaining a considerable advantage over its closest competitor, Disney+, which holds the second position with 14.03%.
Germany: The platform holds 27.81% of the interest, with a wide lead over Disney+, which holds second position with 10.34%.
France: Netflix reaffirms its leadership by capturing 30.14% of the interest, maintaining a commanding lead over Canal+, which holds the second position with 12%.
Portugal: Netflix shows an overwhelming dominance of the market, capturing an extraordinary 90.68% of the interest, with Amazon Prime Video a distant second at just 2.83%.
Top Series and Future Potential
The report also highlights the series with the greatest social impact. Globally, Squid Game 3 is the standout production, significantly outperforming the competition. Other notable global premieres with high social impact include Nine Perfect Strangers, The Handmaid's Tale, Severance, and Black Mirror.
The Social Intelligence report also features a Prosperity Ranking, which measures a series' potential to become a franchise or be renewed for a new season based on public reception and social impact. In the first half of 2025, the global prosperity ranking for new releases is topped by Adolescence. This is followed by The Eternaut, Running Point, Daredevil: Born Again, and Paradise.
