Keshet International (KI) has announced a new wave of global sales for its highly anticipated three-part premium history docuseries Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, co-developed with award-winning British production company SandStone Global. The series premiered on Channel 5 in the UK on Saturday 2 August at 6.30pm.
Following five initial pre-sales—including to Channel 5 in the UK, SBS in Australia, Histoire TV in France, Canal+ Polska in Poland, and Prima Group in the Czech Republic—KI has now secured further deals with major broadcasters and platforms across Europe and beyond. New acquisitions include Movistar Plus+ (Spain and Andorra), COSMOTE TV – COSMOTE TELEKOM (Greece), ERR (Estonia), Ananey – a Paramount Company (Israel), and across 14 CIS territories, including Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and Ukraine.
In addition to the traditional broadcast, KI and SandStone Global have partnered with Snapchat’s AR Studio Paris to offer an innovative at-home augmented reality (AR) experience. This cutting-edge technology will be available to all international buyers, allowing viewers to bring the Seven Wonders to life in their own living rooms. Through on-screen QR codes, audiences can explore digital reconstructions of ancient marvels such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and the Statue of Zeus at Olympia.
Kelly Wright, Managing Director of Distribution at KI, commented:“We are thrilled to be onboarding more buyers to this fantastic series ahead of its world premiere on Channel 5 in the UK, while also making the innovative at-home augmented reality technology available to clients who want it. Incorporating this interactive tech into Seven Wonders of the Ancient World really is a point of difference. The on-screen QR codes will allow viewers around the world to explore, learn, and connect with these famous historic sites from the comfort of their own homes.”
Presented by renowned historian and broadcaster Professor Bettany Hughes OBE, Seven Wonders of the Ancient World takes viewers on an epic journey across Greece, Egypt, and Turkey. The docuseries combines state-of-the-art CGI reconstructions with live-action footage, enabling Bettany to interact with digital replicas of these engineering masterpieces at their original locations.
Professor Bettany Hughes adds:“The past is a living place, a place that’s relevant to all of us. Using this meticulously researched augmented reality allows viewers at home to explore right inside these ancient wonders. It’s an immersive experience that we hope will bring the past to life for millions!”
Produced by Shula Subramaniam, the 3x60’ series is directed by David Lee, with executive producers Professor Bettany Hughes, Dixi Stewart, Ruth Sessions (SandStone Global), Nick Catliff, and Kelly Wright (KI). The docuseries was filmed across three continents, capturing breathtaking visuals at iconic archaeological sites in Turkey, Greece, and Egypt.
