Banijay Rights announces iconic global cookery competition MasterChef is set for a new international adaptation in Sri Lanka.
Marking the 71st international adaptation of the world-beating format, MasterChef Sri Lanka will premiere on free-to-air channel ITN this September, with a 25-episode first-season run.
Rashmi Bajpai, EVP Sales Asia, Banijay Rights, who negotiated the deal said: “We are proud to mark this globally renowned format’s 71st commission with a tantalising new version in Sri Lanka. This nation’s rich culinary heritage will be perfectly showcased by our partners at ITN this September.”
Priyantha Wedamulla, Chairmnan of ITN, said: "We are thrilled to bring MasterChef to Sri Lankan audiences for the first time. This globally celebrated culinary format will see aspiring chefs showcase their talent, passion, and creativity, marking a new chapter in Sri Lankan television history. We look forward to delivering the MasterChef experience with the quality and excellence our viewers expect."
Produced by Reality TV Production (Pvt) Ltd in association with Nilendra Deshapriya Productions, the new adaptation of the hit format sets out on a nationwide quest to find the best amateur cook across Sri Lanka. Through tough individual and team challenges, the amateur cooks will be judged by some of the country’s top chefs and distinguished food critics. It’s a life-changing journey for many, but only one will be crowned the nation’s MasterChef. The season’s winner will receive 3 million Sri Lankan Rupees in cash, a luxury vehicle, and the coveted MasterChef trophy.
Represented internationally by Banijay Entertainment, MasterChef is the world’s most successful cookery television format (Guinness World Records). Now commissioned across 71 markets, the life-changing show has aired over 700 seasons and more than 16,000 episodes to-date. Created by Franc Roddam and first launched in 1990, the superbrand is known and enjoyed across the globe.
