During this year’s Natpe Budapest International (June 23-26, InterContinental Hotel), Formatbiz caught up with Jan Segers, newly appointed Managing Director of Eccholine, who emphasized the strategic importance of this regional market for the company’s ongoing success. Segers highlighted that being in Budapest is not just a routine stop for Eccholine, but a vital opportunity to deepen relationships with local broadcasters and production companies. "For us, Natpe Budapest is very interesting because we get to meet the local players. Unlike global markets where you have meetings with companies from all over the world, here you really get to know each territory in depth," he explained.
Known internationally for producing Peking Express, one of the most successful adventure reality formats of the past two decades, Eccholine has always prioritized close cooperation with local partners. "We don't just sell formats — we actually co-produce. We provide both the format and the line production services, so it’s essential for us to fully understand the landscape of each country," Segers noted.
The company’s presence at regional markets like Natpe Budapest plays a crucial role in maintaining the longevity of Peking Express, which continues to air in eight territories and is actively being considered by new broadcasters. “Peking Express is still our hottest title,” Segers confirmed. “It’s a proven hit, but we also see that new countries are evaluating if it can fit their schedules and budgets. These markets are key for the continuity of the format.”
