 Vai Bello – The Story of Spaghetti Funk, a documentary exploring the origins and development of the Spaghetti Funk collective, will have its premiere as a special event at the Milano Film Fest on Thursday, June 5  at Cinema Anteo. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session featuring members of the original crew, including J-Ax, DJ Jad, Space One, Grido, Raptuz, and Wlady.

The film, produced by Spaghetti Pictures in collaboration with Casta Diva, traces the history of Spaghetti Funk—an influential hip hop collective founded in Milan in 1994. The group played a central role in shaping the Italian hip hop scene during the 1990s, contributing to the genre’s growth and visibility on a national scale.

Spaghetti Funk was created by J-Ax (frontman of Articolo 31), graffiti artist Raptuz (TDK crew), and rapper Space One, with the support of producer Franco Godi. The collective aimed to develop a distinctly Italian version of hip hop, separate from American stylistic conventions, and grounded in local urban culture. The name “Spaghetti Funk” is a deliberate reference to the “Spaghetti Western” genre—an example of reinterpreting global styles through a local lens.

Through interviews with its key figures and previously unreleased archival material, Vai Bello offers a detailed account of the group’s cultural impact and creative journey. The documentary examines both the musical innovation and the social dynamics that shaped the movement, offering insights into the broader context of youth culture in 1990s Italy.

In addition to documenting the evolution of a musical genre, the film also reflects on themes such as community, identity, and the aspirations of a generation that found expression through hip hop.

The film documentary will be released in cinemas across Italy starting June 10.
