TV Asahi, one of Japan’s leading commercial television networks, has teamed up with Emmy Award-winning producers Craig Plestis and Clara Plestis, along with their production company Smart Dog Media, to bring a new talent competition to life: Song vs Dance.
A co-production between TV Asahi and Smart Dog Media, Song vs Dance has begun filming at TV Asahi’s flagship studio in Roppongi, Tokyo. Hosted by a renowned Japanese comedian, the show takes viewers on a high-energy journey through an electrifying competition, featuring a diverse panel of judges, including the lead vocalist of a popular J-pop group, an Olympic-level breakdancer, and a comedian with a massive Instagram following.
Executive producers Craig Plestis and Clara Plestis are spearheading the project, with Takaaki Kitano leading production. This title marks TV Asahi’s first-ever co-production with a U.S.-based partner, Smart Dog Media, setting a new precedent in global entertainment collaborations.
The show will feature an eclectic mix of performers from across Japan, showcasing a diverse range of styles in both solo and group acts. Pushing the boundaries of entertainment, the format blends music and movement into a visually stunning and emotionally charged competition that promises to captivate audiences.
TV Asahi and Smart Dog Media will also introduce the format to the international market at MIP London 2025, where they will host a dedicated panel session on Monday, 24 February 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Turing Theatre, IET London. The session will feature Craig Plestis, Clara Plestis, and Takaaki Kitano, offering exclusive insights into the making of this highly anticipated global format.
