Mipcom Cannes Confirms Spain as Country of Honour
MIPCOM CANNES has unveiled a comprehensive programme celebrating Spain as the Country of Honour at the 40th edition of the International Co-Production & Entertainment Content Market, taking place in Cannes from 21-24 October 2024. The programme will spotlight Spain’s creativity, international TV influence, and its status as a rising global production hub.

The highlight will be a keynote from award-winning Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, Society of the Snow) and Creative Producer Diego Betancor (Elite), who will discuss trends in filmmaking, generational shifts, and Spain's growing influence on the global entertainment stage. The keynote will also introduce Spain’s new promotional campaign, "Spain, Where Talent Ignites," featuring a fashion-led short film that celebrates Spanish creativity.

Among the most anticipated events is the world premiere of Ena: La Reina Victoria Eugenia, RTVE’s royal period drama about Queen Victoria Eugenia, granddaughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain and wife of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. The drama (6 x 60') is directed by an all-female team and will be screened on Monday, 21 October. Cast members Kimberley Tell and Joan Amargós, along with Executive Producer Luis Hernández, will attend the premiere.

The Spanish presence at MIPCOM CANNES will be significant, with over 50% more accredited Spanish companies compared to last year. The event will feature a panel on the country's co-production opportunities, including success stories from recent productions like Zorro and Stories to Stay Awake. There will also be a Spanish-themed Opening Night Party and a special edition of the FRESH TV content showcase curated by Virginia Mouseler, CEO of The WIT International Services.

Spain’s audiovisual sector has seen rapid growth, with a 408% increase between 2018 and 2022, driven by major investments and public support, including a €1.6 billion initiative by the Ministry for Digital Transformation. Spain ranks second only to the UK in scripted TV commissions from global platforms like Netflix, Amazon, HBO, and Disney+, and its audiovisual market is projected to grow by 31.6% between 2023 and 2027.

MIPCOM CANNES, the world’s leading entertainment content market, is expected to attract over 11,000 delegates from more than 100 countries. Past Countries of Honour include Japan, Türkiye, Mexico, Argentina, South Korea, and most recently, China in 2023.
