This agreement follows Arte's acquisition of yes Studios’ award-winning comedy series Bloody Murray (9 x 45’) earlier this year.
Shtisel, featuring Michael Aloni (The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, 8200), Dovale Glickman (Oslo, Laces), Neta Riskin (Ghosts of Beirut, The Spy), and Emmy Award-nominee Shira Haas (Unorthodox, Night Therapy), explores the intricate lives of the Shtisel family, an ultra-Orthodox clan in contemporary Jerusalem.
Created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky, Shtisel became a global sensation after its debut on Netflix, offering rare insights into Haredi society. Produced by yes TV and Abot Hameiri Barkai, the series has won 17 Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Script, Best Actor (twice), and Best Actress.
Sharon Levi, managing director at yes Studios, remarks: “We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Arte and are excited for Shtisel to reach audiences in France and Germany this week.
“With its charming characters and compelling portrayal of ultra-Orthodox life, Shtisel resonates deeply wherever it airs. The series often garners a dedicated local fanbase, with viewers eager to binge-watch. We are confident that it will achieve similar success on arte.tv and eagerly anticipate its performance.”
