Tribeca Festival Lisboa: A Historic Collaboration

Tribeca Festival Lisboa: A Historic Collaboration
Tribeca Enterprises, SIC, the Portuguese broadcasting company, along with its streaming platform OPTO, and the City of Lisbon, proudly announce the inaugural European edition of the Tribeca Festival. Tribeca Festival Lisboa heralds a significant moment for Portugal’s flourishing arts community and is scheduled to take place from October 17-19.

Under the esteemed hosting of Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro and Oscar- and Emmy-nominated producer Jane Rosenthal, the festival will commence with an opening night followed by a two-day extravaganza at the Beato Innovation District, situated along Lisbon’s picturesque waterfront. Notable luminaries such as award-winning filmmaker Patty Jenkins, EGOT achiever Whoopi Goldberg, and Oscar-nominated actor Griffin Dunne have already committed as headline speakers for this exciting event.

Jenkins, renowned for her directorial prowess in the blockbuster Wonder Woman and her debut Oscar-winning feature Monster, made history in 2017 as the first woman to helm a live-action film with a budget exceeding $100 million with the acclaimed Wonder Woman. Goldberg, a multifaceted talent lauded for her contributions to acting, comedy, writing, and hosting, stands among the elite few who have achieved an EGOT, a feat accomplished by winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. With a career spanning over four decades, Dunne has carved a niche for himself as a versatile actor, director, and producer, boasting credits in notable films like Dallas Buyers Club, After Hours, and An American Werewolf in London.

The Beato Innovation District, nestled along the banks of the River Tagus and renowned as Lisbon’s Unicorn Factory, will serve as the festival's primary venue, emblematic of its commitment to fostering innovation and creativity within the startup and scale-up ecosystem.

Curated by Tribeca’s Senior Vice President of Programming and Festival Director Cara Cusumano, in collaboration with SIC, OPTO, and executive producer Tony Goncalves—a former WarnerMedia executive and Portuguese native—the festival's programming promises a rich tapestry of Portuguese and international cinema, engaging talks with industry luminaries, immersive installations, networking opportunities, and more. The complete lineup will be unveiled later this summer.

Tribeca's venture into Lisbon signifies its global aspirations, building upon its legacy of international expansion, which began with the Doha Tribeca Film Festival between 2009-2012, the first of its kind in Qatar. In recent years, Tribeca has further solidified its presence beyond New York City, with annual events in Los Angeles and Miami, through strategic partnerships with notable entities such as LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company and Art Basel Miami
