Pope Francis is the first pontiff to be interviewed in a TV studio
On Saturday, May 27 Pope Francis became the first pontiff to enter a TV studio, arriving at the RAI Studios at Saxa Rubra, Rome, to give an interview to Italian State broadcaster RAI. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the RAI staff with a great round of applause.

This is not Bergoglio’s first TV interview, but until now he had always received journalists in the Vatican. This last interview is definitely in a class by itself – he took part in the Italian Bishops' Conference’s (CEI in Italian) talk show A Sua Immagine. The interview was initially scheduled in March, but was postponed due to the Pope’s hospitalization later that month. The interview is set to air on June 4.
