Food Network is about to launch Il Panino Perfetto, a new travel show about places, people, and food supply chains in southern Italy, led by Vittorio Gucci with his daughter Sofia Plescia. It will air every Tuesday starting May 30 at 10 p.m., and each episode will be available to stream on discovery+ immediately after its linear airing.
Vittorio is a musician with 20 years of experience in television and has an obsession with good food - he does not call himself a chef, but rather a sandwich maker by choice. He has two souls inside him: one is rustic, while the other is sweetly perfectionist with a refined taste. Sofia is a young aspiring actress with a refined soul, who will discover during this adventure that she is not so different from her father.
On their journey, they will immerse themselves among the artistic and scenic sights, markets, and locals. They will meet experts who will guide them through excellent and characteristic ingredients among the first-rate supply chains, such as the pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio, the ricotta of Piana degli Albanesi, and the artichoke of Paestum, telling the story of these products along with some fascinating anecdotes.
In each episode, they will visit a different location: from Naples to Caserta and Avellino, then on to Matera, Cerignola, Polignano, Cellino, down to Altomonte and Tropea, ending the tour in Palermo and Catania. At the end of each stage, a jury will evaluate the sandwich prepared by Vittorio with the ingredients he scouted with Sofia. The jury will include many audience favorites, such as Albano Carrisi, Tony Colombo, and Antonio De Matteo of Mare Fuori. Will the father-daughter pair be able to conquer their palates by challenging culinary tradition?
