Banijay Rights’ Hit Format, The Legacy, Set to Air for First Time in Belgium Banijay Rights, the leading distribution arm of Banijay Group, today announces that long-running entertainment format, The Legacy, has been picked up in Belgium for the first time. The new commission, which is for an initial 86 x 45’ episodes, is produced by Zodiak Belgium for RTBF.

Locally titled Les Associés the game show will begin on 24 September and will be stripped daily in access prime on RTBF’s French-speaking free-to-air channel, La Une.

The Legacy has already been adapted in eight territories and has been a daily hit for more than fifteen years on Rai 1 in Italy and, since 2010, has helped boost the midday slot on TF1 in France.

In The Legacy, contestants compete in a variety of games to take home a hefty cash prize. At the start of the game, the prize fund is split in equal shares between the players but harmony is short-lived and soon the stealing starts! After each round, the weakest contestant picks an opponent in an attempt to save themselves. The two of them engage in a deadly duel where the winner inherits the other’s legacy and sends them home. This series of merciless knockouts culminates with the iconic money round – the Guillotine – which decides the fate of the finalist.

It’s great it will soon make its debut in Belgium and we are currently talking to a number of other international broadcasters that have noted its dominating presence in daily schedules.”

Banijay Rights, part of Banijay Group, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in October, will launch a host of brand new formats at MIPCOM including 60’ entertainment show The Duo, which has been created by the Group’s Mastiff Denmark for DR1. The wonderful unpredictability of human chemistry is the essence of this entertainment format. Diverse singers are brought together in an innovative audition to discover one unique and surprising vocal partnership the nation will fall in love with. In each episode, the singers cannot see who they’ve been chosen to sing with. A giant curtain divides them - only when two voices combine to create one magical sound is the curtain raised and the singers are revealed to each other.

Also included in Banijay Rights’ new format slate is Taste of the Nation, a 60’ cookery entertainment series originally produced for NPO1 in The Netherlands. A nationwide search for the next food sensation, this format challenges all hobby cooks, home bakers, foodies and culinary inventors to mesmerise the judges and the entire nation with their own created plate, snack, drink or recipe. They will have to convince the jury, which consists of big names from the media and food scene, of the potential, originality, quality and, of course, the amazing taste of their food invention. These products could range from a new popsicle, home brew beer with a twist, or a completely new version of a classic Asian dish – anything is possible and everything is allowed, as long as it tastes glorious.
