The Bruce Lee Project to see first adaptation The competition series The Bruce Lee Project has secured its first international format deal and is heading to audiences in South Asia and the Middle East.

So You Think You Know Kung Fu (SYTYKKF) and 8K Miles Media Group inked a deal for the format. SYTYKKF is a joint venture made up of Company Films (which is co-owned by Keanu Reeves and Stephen Hamel), Bruce Lee Entertainment (Shannon Lee’s production company), Benaroya Pictures and Metan Global Entertainment Group. SYTYKKF created the series and oversees the global rights and licensing of the format worldwide. 8K Miles Media Group will produce and distribute The Bruce Lee Project for five seasons in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Pre-production is set to begin soon, with the first season expected for release in 2018. The show will air in multiple Indian languages across the globe.

Reeves commented: “Bruce Lee has a legacy of inspiration. It is exciting to see this legacy of inspiration have the opportunity to reach a new generation in The Bruce Lee Project.”

Michael Benaroya added, “When I originally came up with the idea, we were thinking of a fighting competition, but as we began to dig into the needs of the audience we found that there was a much broader and more interesting approach to this that allows us to appeal to a wider demographic and one that is seeking inspiration and positive messaging.”

Suresh Venkatachari, founder and chairman of 8K Miles Media Group, said, “We are very excited about this project. It fulfills a vision of our company by bridging the entertainment industry of South Asia with Hollywood. What better icon for this major step than a martial arts expert who successfully bridged the gap between East and West?”

Prashant Shah, the president and COO of the content and distribution division for 8K Miles Media Group, commented, “At 8K Miles Media Group, we are producing content for the global audience with the objective to be the first South Asian media conglomerate entity to offer the best in media and entertainment.”

Larry Namer, the president and CEO of Metan who handles sales and development for the project, commented, “We’re extremely proud to be involved with this groundbreaking series and launching it in South Asia and the Middle East. The legacy of Bruce Lee continues to grow even 40 years after his death, with many of today’s celebrities crediting his teachings and practices as their source of inspiration and learning. Who would have ever thought that reality shows could be positive and spread good vibes, while at the same time be dramatic and compelling? With The Bruce Lee Project, we have achieved that.”
