The first-ever TV biopic of Giovannino Guareschi, the Emilian writer, journalist and cartoonist who created Don Camillo and Peppone and sold over 20 million copies in 142 languages. The film follows his fiercely independent life — from his refusal to fight for the Nazis and the Italian Social Republic, which led to his deportation to a German prison camp, to his clashes with institutions, his time in jail and the birth of his "Mondo Piccolo," always anchored by his love for his wife Ennia and the lowlands of the Po Valley. Freely inspired by the biographical book "Chi sogna nuovi gerani?" edited by his children Alberto and Carlotta, and shot in the real locations that inspired the author. Starring Giuseppe Zeno, Benedetta Cimatti, Andrea Roncato, Maurizio Donadoni and Salvatore Striano. Directed by Andrea Porporati. Produced by Anele in collaboration with Rai Fiction, with the support of Emilia-Romagna Film Commission.
