Passion Distribution Announces Third International Commission For Breakout Format Virgin Island
Passion Distribution has announced the third international commission for Virgin Island, the social-experiment format that has emerged as one of the most talked-about formats on television. Following record-breaking streaming performances for seasons one (2025) and two (2026) on the UK’s Channel 4, the format has now been commissioned by TV 2 Denmark, with Nordisk Film TV, part of Banijay Entertainment and the production company behind docu-series AI Love You, producing the local adaptation.

The deal marks the third international version of Virgin Island to be commissioned within just a few months. The Danish adaptation, which recently wrapped filming in Greece, will follow a group of young men and women as they confront their intimacy issues. The commission follows adaptations by Dutch public broadcaster BNNVARA, produced by Concept Street, and RTL+ in Germany, produced by RTL Studios. Several additional international versions are currently in development and will be announced in due course.
Originally produced by Double Act for Channel 4, Virgin Island delivered the broadcaster’s biggest streaming launch in its history across any genre. The series achieved Channel 4’s highest consolidated share among 16–34-year-olds since modern records began, delivering four times the channel’s benchmark for the demographic. In May 2026, season two reached new heights, growing its 16–34 audience by 11% year on year.

Marianne Bjørn, Format Manager, TV 2 Denmark, said: “Virgin Island is a bold and original format that explores intimacy and relationships in a way that feels both relevant and deeply human. The format combines emotional storytelling with a subject that resonates with many people today, while offering a fresh perspective on connection and vulnerability. We’re excited to bring this important and engaging conversation to Danish audiences together with Nordisk Film TV.”
Ulrik Jorgensen, Managing Director, Nordisk Film TV, said: “Virgin Island has already garnered significant interest internationally, and after seeing the impact with audiences, we knew we wanted to bring the format to Denmark. It tackles a subject so rarely explored on television and we hope audiences strongly connect with the authenticity of each participant’s journey.”

Rob Davis, Executive Producer at Double Act, added: “It’s an exciting time for Virgin Island, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the Danish version. The format’s international success shows just how universal the issues of intimacy and connection are for young people today. I’m proud that Virgin Island can explore these subjects with warmth, humour and honesty, while still delivering compelling television.”
Nick Tanner, Director of Sales and Co-Productions at Passion Distribution, commented: “We are thrilled to be working with the teams at Nordisk Film TV and TV 2 Denmark to bring the first Scandinavian version of Virgin Island to life! As the format’s growth around the world accelerates, the Danish version will be a rollercoaster of emotions, revelations and ‘can’t-look-away entertainment’!”
