Beta Film has acquired the international sales rights to Just Call Me Frida, a family feature set to celebrate its world premiere in the Elements +10 competition at the Giffoni Film Festival on July 19.
The 90-minute film follows Samuel, an eleven-year-old boy whose carefully structured life is disrupted by the arrival of an unusual visitor. After spending years recovering from a serious illness, Samuel avoids the outside world, convinced that staying safe is the only way to live. Everything changes when he meets Frida, a cheerful and outspoken apprentice to the Grim Reaper who insists on teaching him what life is truly about. Their unlikely friendship leads Samuel on a series of adventures that gradually help him rediscover courage, curiosity and the joy of living in the present.
Directed by Katja Benrath from a screenplay by Anne Gröger, Just Call Me Frida blends emotional storytelling with humor while exploring themes of fear, resilience and human connection for younger audiences. The feature is produced by NEOS Film and TELLUX Film in co-production with Mideu Films, it Media, Tellux 1-13 Medienproduktion, Gretchenfilm, SWR, BR and MDR.
International sales are handled by Beta Film's KIDS & YA boutique label, which boarded the project ahead of its international debut at one of the world's leading festivals dedicated to children and young audiences.
