ChaiFlicks, the global streaming platform dedicated to Jewish content, has acquired the exclusive SVOD rights for the U.S., UK and Australia to both seasons of the acclaimed New Zealand comedy Kid Sister from Seven. One Studios International. Created, written, executive produced by and starring Simone Nathan (Our Flag Means Death), the series will premiere on ChaiFlicks this fall. Originally commissioned by TVNZ, Kid Sister has received widespread critical acclaim since its debut. The semi-autobiographical comedy has been praised for its fresh take on family, identity and modern relationships, with reviewers comparing its tone to Fleabag, Girls and Nobody Wants This.
Neil Friedman, Co-Founder of ChaiFlicks, praised Nathan's creative voice, saying: "Simone Nathan is an extraordinary talent. Her sharp writing, distinctive sense of humor, and authentic portrayal of a young woman navigating a deeply conflicted relationship with herself and her family are truly remarkable. I would describe her voice as a blend of Lena Dunham and Jenny Slate—smart, fearless, and refreshingly original—and Kid Sister is a perfect showcase for her exceptional talent."
Commenting on the international acquisition, Nathan said: "I've always hoped that audiences beyond New Zealand would connect with this series and the story we're telling. At its core, the show explores the universal pressure many people face from family and society to settle down, regardless of their religion, background, or gender. Because so many elements of my own life are woven into the series, it's especially meaningful to share it with a broader audience."
Set in Auckland, Kid Sister follows Lulu (Nathan), a 29-year-old unmarried Jewish woman struggling to reconcile her family's expectations with her secret relationship with her non-Jewish boyfriend, Ollie. As she navigates cultural traditions, romance and adulthood, Lulu attempts to forge her own path while balancing her love for both family and identity. Produced by Greenstone TV, the series was produced by Emily Aderton and directed by Aidee Walker.
