Banijay Finland is bringing Fear Factor (Pelkokerroin) back to Finnish screens more than 17 years after its last run, marking the first international adaptation of Fear Factor: House of Fear for Ruutu and Nelonen. Last aired in 2009, the format is being reinvented with a stronger social strategy component inspired by the latest U.S. version. Alongside the franchise’s signature physical challenges, contestants will live together under one roof, where alliances, manipulation and psychological pressure become central elements of the competition. The winner will take home a €20,000 prize.
Tatu Ferchen, CEO, Banijay Finland, comments: “After 17 years, Pelkokerroin is back in a way that feels nostalgic, while completely new. Introducing a stronger social and psychological dimension inspired by the US version, we are elevating the stakes and competition, making it highly unpredictable and immersive, and ultimately, more relevant for today’s audiences.”
Lucas Green, Chief Content Officer, Operations, Banijay Entertainment, adds: “Fear Factor has always been about pushing boundaries, and its latest evolution proves it remains as compelling as ever. The success of the US version, alongside reboots in markets like Denmark, highlights how strategic reality continues to resonate when paired with spectacular challenges and social gameplay. By amplifying the emotional and psychological stakes, Fear Factor: House of Fear is bound to make a compelling return to Finland.”
The revival follows the strong performance of Fear Factor: House of Fear in the U.S., where it became FOX’s top new unscripted series of the season and has already secured a second season. The format continues to expand internationally, with a new season also returning in India and a celebrity adaptation launching in French-speaking Canada.
