Chilean broadcaster Canal 13 is relaunching iconic Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea from RCN, further extending the global reach of one of the most successful scripted formats in television history. The series returned to Chilean screens on May 11 in the 4:30pm slot, reaffirming the enduring popularity of the 1999 production created by late writer Fernando Gaitán and directed by Mario Ribero.
Starring Ana María Orozco and Jorge Enrique Abello, the telenovela follows Beatriz Pinzón Solano, an intelligent and hardworking woman who falls in love with her boss, Armando Mendoza, while navigating life inside fashion company Ecomoda alongside the unforgettable El Cuartel de las Feas. To support the launch, cast members Lorna Cepeda and Natalia Ramírez are set to visit Chile this week for promotional activities tied to the premiere.
More than 25 years after its original debut, Yo soy Betty, la fea continues to expand its international footprint. The title was recognised by the Guinness World Records in 2010 as the most successful telenovela in television history. It has been dubbed into more than 25 languages and adapted in over 20 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa.
