Originally created in Belgium in 2008 by De Filistijnen, Eternal Glory has established itself as a resilient international format, with adaptations in more than ten territories including Germany, the UK and the Netherlands. Norway represents one of its strongest markets: the format has reached peak market shares of 69% and has run for 17 seasons on NRK. Similarly, the Swedish version on SVT has achieved 18 seasons, with a 19th currently in production—highlighting the format’s long-term sustainability and adaptability.
The introduction of Mesternes mester team builds on the core pillars of the format—elite sports talent, emotional storytelling and physically demanding challenges—while adding a relational dimension that is expected to enhance both narrative complexity and entertainment value. In Norway, Eternal Glory remains a key scheduling asset, with season 18 of the flagship edition set to film later this year and launch in 2027. The brand continues to demonstrate international traction, with a third season currently in production in Switzerland for SRF, reinforcing its ongoing global momentum.
Pia Basberg, Commissioning Editor Independents at NRK, commented:“As one of NRK’s most popular shows, we’re excited to evolve the format with a team-based edition, bringing a new dynamic while staying true to what audiences love. The team format allows us to expand the brand universe, introducing new relationships, strategies and storytelling layers. Our ambition is to establish two annual cycles—one classic edition and one team-based version—both to meet audience demand and to keep the format fresh and relevant.”
Simone de Pruyssenaere de la Woestyne, Managing Director at Primitives, added: “Eternal Glory has consistently demonstrated its strength across markets, and this new version represents a natural evolution. It keeps the format fresh while reinforcing its international appeal.”
