Format

Following a strong debut on DR1 in November 2025, History Hunters, the game show format created by Heartland TV, has been recommissioned for a second season by Danish broadcaster DR. The format is distributed by Primitives. 
The series quickly established itself as a standout new title, blending national history with a game show structure, and resonating with audiences through its fresh and engaging take on the past. It was further recognised at the Danish TV Prisen with a double nomination.
Building on this momentum, DR has greenlit a second season while also expanding the brand with a youth special currently in production, set for Halloween.
History Hunters turns a nation’s history into an epic competition, as two celebrity teams race through real historic locations, solving puzzles and uncovering surprising stories from their country’s past — all leading to a final showdown.
The format was launched internationally by Primitives at MIPCOM 2025 and has already been optioned in six territories, including Germany and Spain, underlining its strong global potential.
