RTVE Unveils Barrio Esperanza, a Feel-Good Primetime Comedy for La 1
RTVE has introduced Barrio Esperanza, a new scripted comedy set to debut soon in the primetime lineup of La 1. Produced by Globomedia (The Mediapro Studio) in association with RTVE, the series is created by Iván Escobar and Antonio Sánchez Olivas, and directed by Sandra Gallego and Iñaki Peñafiel.
The ensemble cast includes Mariona Terés, Alejo Sauras, Ana Jara, Mariano Peña, Juan Vinuesa, Laura de la Uz, Guillermo Campra, Ángel Héctor, Carlos Librado Nene and Ruth Núñez.

Presented at the RTVE Institute headquarters, the series tells a heartfelt story that pays tribute to the teachers who shaped our lives—those unforgettable figures who left a lasting mark during childhood.

During the launch event, María Eizaguirre, Director of Communication and Participation at RTVE, highlighted the strength of the project: “We are really looking forward to enjoying another new series like this one, with the best cast, with surprises, and in which every detail has been very carefully crafted.”
José Pastor, Director of Film and Fiction at RTVE, added: “It’s a series that we fell in love with from the very beginning. We needed to see that youthful spirit. Schools and high schools have always been great places to tell stories. As a public service, I think we need to make people laugh, but also make them think and reflect.”
María José Rodríguez, Managing Director of Globomedia and executive producer of the series, described it as “a 100% Globomedia production”, adding that it is “a family comedy, to watch with your children, full of emotion, that will help you talk about important topics with them and, at the same time, entertain you.”

For the creators, Barrio Esperanza is deeply rooted in personal experience. Escobar emphasized the importance of early years in shaping who we are: “We are shaped by our childhood, and we are who we are probably because of our first 12, 13, 14 years, and because of a teacher who put a hand on our shoulder and told us: you are special.”
In the same vein, Sánchez Olivas noted that the series “is one of the tributes we want to pay to the everyday heroes and heroines without capes who have shaped us.”
