Scandi Alliance Greenlights Miso Film’s Epic Historical Series Royal Blood
One year after its initial announcement, Miso Film’s premium historical drama series “Royal Blood” (Blått Blod) has officially secured a production commitment, marking a major milestone for the ambitious Nordic project. The six-part miniseries is the first flagship scripted title backed by the Scandi Alliance — the joint collaboration between TV 2 Norway, TV4 Sweden and TV 2 Denmark — and was formally announced during the TV Drama Vision conference at the Gothenburg Film Festival.

With financing now in place, the project enters its next phase, opening the door to international co-financing as it moves steadily toward production.

Set against the backdrop of dramatic geopolitical upheaval between 1807 and 1814, “Royal Blood” explores the intense power struggles between the Scandinavian royal houses during a defining moment in European history. As the continent’s great powers collide, the series follows a group of ambitious figures in Denmark, Norway and Sweden navigating loyalty, identity, desire and political ambition, where personal decisions carry far-reaching national consequences.

The Scandi Alliance also confirmed that acclaimed Norwegian director Erik Richter Strand has been attached to helm the series.

“‘Royal Blood’ is a truly epic undertaking that explores how power, loyalty and ambition collide at a pivotal moment in Scandinavian history,” said Alice Sommer, Head of Drama at TV 2 Norway. “This story belongs to Denmark, Norway and Sweden alike. With Erik Richter Strand directing and Miso Film’s proven track record in premium drama, we are confident the series will resonate strongly with modern audiences while setting a new benchmark for Nordic historical storytelling.”

Producer Kristin Ulseth of Miso Film added that the series examines how alliances are built and broken, and how the fate of nations can hinge on deeply human choices. “Although set in the past, the themes feel strikingly current, making the story both gripping and unsettlingly relevant,” she said, highlighting Richter Strand’s experience on “The Crown” as a key creative asset.

Backed by a budget of approximately €15 million, the project continues Miso Film’s focus on premium scripted content with strong creative identities and international appeal. The series is executive produced by Peter Bose, Jonas Allen, Christian Rank, Are Heidenstrøm and Erik Richter Strand. Miso Film is part of the Fremantle group, which will handle international distribution. Production is expected to begin in early 2027.
