Carosello in Love Reason and Sentiment is the title of the movie that Rai 1 will premiere next November 30 in prime time.
Starring Ludovica Martino and Giacomo Giorgio, the film is directed by Jacopo Bonvicini and produced by Matteo Rovere and Sydney Sibilia for Grøenlandia, in collaboration with Rai Fiction.
The story begins in 1957, when television has just begun to illuminate Italian households. What starts as a luxury reserved for a few quickly becomes a powerful tool of social connection and shared entertainment. Families, neighbors, and entire communities gather in living rooms, courtyards, and local bars to experience together the magic of the first Rai broadcasts. Among the emerging programs, one stands out for its originality and influence: Carosello — the iconic format that would forever transform Italy’s cultural imagination.
At the center of the story is Laura (played by Ludovica Martino), a young woman captivated by the magnetic power of television—a medium she perceives not just as entertainment but as a window to a new world. Opposite her is Mario (portrayed by Giacomo Giorgio), a skeptical and idealistic director who lends his talent to advertising while secretly nurturing the ambition of making arthouse cinema.
Their paths cross on the bustling set of Carosello, where creativity, innovation, and the birth of modern Italian advertising collide. Over the course of twenty years, Laura and Mario’s lives become intertwined. Between professional challenges, personal misunderstandings, missed opportunities, and unresolved desires, the two protagonists navigate a delicate balance of reason, sentiment, and ambition—always close yet constantly at risk of losing each other.
