Japanese companies The Seven, TBS Television, and U-NEXT have unveiled the TBS × U-NEXT × THE SEVEN Global Project, which will mark the first live-action rendition of the celebrated manga “Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem”, known for its striking artwork and exceptional illustrative technique by Eiji Hashimoto, based on a narrative by Shinya Umemura.
Set in Kyoto during the final years of the Edo era (Bakumatsu), the plot portrays the fierce and fervent lives of the Shinsengumi, the most formidable samurai faction, through spectacular action sequences and a bold reimagining rooted in historical events. Yuki Yamada will portray the central character, Toshizo Hijikata, while the remaining members of the Shieikan will be played by a roster of skilled young performers, each bringing strong individuality and ability: Nobuyuki Suzuki, Aoi Nakamura, Kanata Hosoda, Shuhei Uesugi, Kisetsu Fujiwara, Yosuke Sugino, Shuntaro Yanagi, Shuto Miyazaki, and Hihio Iwanaga.
It has also been confirmed that Go Ayano will take on the role of Kamo Serizawa, the “most powerful and ruthless adversary” who challenges the protagonists.
The cast has further expanded with the addition of Eita Okuno, Mitsuomi Takahashi, Nobuaki Kaneko, Masanobu Ando, and Yuki Sakurai. They will bring to life a group of distinctive and dynamic figures who confront Toshizo Hijikata and the Shieikan, driving the storyline forward with force and intensity.
