Serious Kids Confirms Production of Second Season of Flix – by Tomi Ungerer
Pictor Productions has begun production on the second season of its first animated comedy series, “Flix – by Tomi Ungerer”, which will premiere on RTÉ in spring 2026. Aimed at children aged 4 to 7, the new season has been commissioned by RTÉ and backed by Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, the Irish S481 Tax Credit scheme, and Serious Kids, which will manage international sales.

Based on the beloved picture book by renowned author Tomi Ungerer, Flix tells the story of a pug born to cat parents in Cat Town. Bilingual and open-minded, Flix can climb trees, swim, and enjoys both fish and sausages — bridging the worlds of cats and dogs on Splitt Island, where he embarks on humorous adventures with his friends Tabi and Munchkin.

According to Aria Ungerer, CEO of Pictor Productions and creative producer of the series, the new season expands Flix’s world to include more of Dog Town, exploring his canine roots. “We’ve created a whimsical universe with Cat and Dog Town, each following its own internal logic, just as my father envisioned. While Flix is a fun, adventure-filled comedy, it also addresses real issues such as bullying, feeling different, environmental change, and gender diversity — always with humor and a gentle touch,” she said.

Genevieve Dexter, CEO of Serious Kids
, noted that the first season — produced during the pandemic — comprised 13 episodes, while Season 2 will feature 26 episodes, broadening its international reach. “This bridge series for 4-7 year-olds has strong appeal, full of young creative energy and Tomi’s signature wit. We expect to deliver all 26 episodes by January 2026, following the RTÉ premiere,” she added.

Suzanne Kelly, Head of Children’s and Young People’s Content at RTÉ, praised the show’s success: “Season 1 performed extremely well for us on RTÉjr, and we’re thrilled Pictor managed to secure funding for Season 2. ‘Expect the Unexpected’ was Tomi Ungerer’s motto — a perfect description for the new adventures of Flix.”
