Spanish actors Jaime Lorente and Miguel Ángel Silvestre, together with showrunner Carlos Quintanilla, VP & Head of Content and Production Latam/USH at Sony Pictures Television Latin America, will present Carlota, a major international drama that reimagines the life of Empress Carlota of Habsburg with a modern, multicultural lens.

The session will take place during the fifth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria, the largest Ibero-American audiovisual event, held from September 30 to October 3 at Matadero Madrid. Organized by EGEDA and Fundación Secuoya in collaboration with FIPCA, the event is supported by the Community and City of Madrid, with sponsorship from Madrid Film Office, Film Madrid Region, and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, among other partners.

On Thursday, October 2, from 16:00 to 16:30 at Sala Azcona (Cineteca), the panel Carlota: The Empress Who Crosses Borders — Content Still Reigns at Sony Pictures Television will highlight one of the company’s most ambitious international projects.

The series brings back to life the figure of Carlota of Habsburg, Empress of Mexico, through a fresh and multicultural narrative that resonates with today’s audiences. The series is headlined by singer and actress Belinda, born in Madrid and raised in Mexico, one of the most influential Latin artists of her generation. She is joined by acclaimed Spanish actors Jaime Lorente and Miguel Ángel Silvestre, along with Mexican actress Mabel Cadena.

The project is helmed by directors Ana Lorena Pérez Ríos (Like Water for Chocolate) and Alejandro Bazzano (Money Heist), both bringing their strong creative vision to the production.During the session in Madrid, the panel will address the creative and production approach behind Carlota, as well as the acting challenge of portraying such an iconic historical figure with a modern perspective. The discussion will feature Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Jaime Lorente alongside Carlos Quintanilla, and will be moderated by Adriana Castillo, General Coordinator of Platino Industria.

With a solid career in Spain and abroad, Miguel Ángel Silvestre is well-known for his roles in Velvet, Sin tetas no hay paraíso, Narcos and Netflix’s Sense8, which gave him global visibility. His versatility has established him as one of the most admired Spanish actors working today.

Jaime Lorente rose to worldwide fame with standout performances in Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) and Elite. His career spans film, theater, and television, including El Cid and Cristo y Rey. In Carlota, Lorente takes on a role that combines dramatic intensity with international projection.

Carlos Quintanilla, one of the leading executives and creators in the Latin American audiovisual industry, oversees content and production for Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market at Sony Pictures Television. Reflecting on the project, he commented:
