From
September 24, every Wednesday at 9:30 PM, HISTORY Channel (Sky channels 118 and
409) will exclusively premiere The West with Kevin Costner, an eight-part
series that re-examines the epic saga of the American West.
Renowned actor and director Kevin Costner—long fascinated with America’s
roots—serves as both narrator and executive producer, alongside Pulitzer
Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Together with leading historians
and experts, the series brings to life a century of defining moments that
shaped the United States, blending historical accuracy with cinematic
storytelling.
“The West has a unique power: it sparks the imagination and stirs the soul,”
Costner explains. “But beyond the evocative images, there are the human
struggles—people claiming land at the expense of those already there, a nation
demanding an entire continent whatever the cost. These stories are enthralling,
inspiring, and tragic, and they deserve to be told. Even if the U.S. was born
in the East, it was forged in the West.”
The series opens with the Treaty of Paris (1783), tracing the westward
expansion of settlers across Indigenous territories and highlighting the fierce
resistance of Native nations. Through vivid storytelling, The West revisits
legendary figures and defining conflicts: explorers Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea,
sheriffs and outlaws, cowboys and ranchers, pioneering women and
fortune-seekers during the Gold Rush.
Episode 1: The Fall of the Confederation – After years of settler invasions,
Chief Little Turtle leads the Native Confederation of the Northwest to a
historic victory over the U.S. Army—only to face General “Mad” Anthony Wayne’s
decisive counterattack.
Episode 2: The Escape of John Colter – The famed explorer ventures into fur
trading, defying warnings from the Blackfeet. Captured for trespassing on
sacred hunting grounds, he must fight for survival in a legendary escape.

among the Cayuse, but cultural clashes and a measles outbreak lead to tragic
consequences.
Episode 4: Comancheria – The abduction of Cynthia Ann Parker ignites violent
conflict between the Comanche and Texas, shaping the fate of her son, the last
great Comanche leader.
Episode 5: The Mexican Robin Hood – Outlaw Joaquin Murrieta becomes both feared
bandit and folk hero during California’s Gold Rush.
Episode 6: Bleeding Kansas – Abolitionist John Brown and his family fight in a
brutal clash over slavery that foreshadows the Civil War.
Episode 7: The Fetterman Battle – Colonel Carrington’s arrogance and Captain
Fetterman’s miscalculation hand Crazy Horse and the Lakota a stunning victory.
Episode 8: The Johnson County Wars – In Wyoming, small ranchers fight back
against powerful land barons, leading to one of the West’s most dramatic
showdowns.
