UpStream
Media has joined forces with production company Middlechild to produce original
content tailored for today’s on-demand audiences. This alliance represents an
innovative and adaptable business model that redefines how traditional
television producers can collaborate with digital platforms, merging broadcast
know-how with the rapidly expanding world of online communities.
The new
lineup of digital-first projects will feature a combination of one-off specials
and mini-series, set to premiere across UpStream Media’s successful YouTube
network—initially on top-performing channels OMG Stories, Filth, and Origin,
which together count around 1.5 million subscribers.
These
originals will cover a diverse range of themes, such as the struggles of
individuals rebuilding their lives after imprisonment; the determination of
young mothers facing economic challenges; and the hidden—often
alarming—pollution lurking beneath Britain’s waterways.
Nick Rees,
Chief Operating Officer at UpStream Media, stated: “We’re thrilled about this
partnership with Middlechild, which underscores our dedication to delivering
fresh, high-quality, and engaging content to digital audiences. Beyond creating
compelling programming for our channels, we hope this collaboration will also
reveal new talent and scalable formats.”
Joe
Elliott, Head of UpStream Media, added: “This is a prime example of a mutually
beneficial collaboration in our sector, combining Middlechild’s bold and
imaginative storytelling with UpStream Media’s expertise in social media.
Together, we will fuel growth and unlock new opportunities, reaching audiences
worldwide.”
David
Sumnall, CEO & Founder of Middlechild, commented: “Every production company
recognizes that YouTube and social platforms are playing a crucial role in
shaping the future of our industry, and we’re proud to be leading in that
space. We couldn’t imagine better partners than Nick, Joe, and the talented team
at UpStream Media. They’ve built a massive audience for their content, and
we’re honored to be entrusted with expanding that success through brand-new
originals.”
