Movistar Plus+ continues to move forward in its new phase of growth, aiming to become Spain’s leading entertainment platform. At the FesTVal in Vitoria, the directors of the different divisions outlined the key pillars that will shape the future of Movistar Plus+. The goal is to offer viewers the highest-quality content while also driving the Spanish audiovisual industry.
Reaching new audiences, creating television with broad mainstream appeal, building an even stronger catalogue, and exploring new genres and formats are all fundamental principles in this growth stage. All this while staying true to the solid identity Movistar Plus+ has forged in recent years as the home of talent and creative ambition, reflected in its award-winning original productions.
Movistar Plus+ aims not only to consolidate its position as a “local hero,” but also to compete for audiences with the global streaming giants, leveraging a local-first approach rooted in the talent of leading Spanish creators with the goal of making an impact on international markets. New models of creation—focused on co-productions, IP development, and collaborations with platforms and production companies—will be key to this ambitious strategy.
Jorge Pezzi, Director of Fiction at Movistar Plus+: “We will continue to invest in Movistar Plus+ original productions, which bring us so much success in both series and films, as shown this year by the success of Sirat, shortlisted for the Oscars. Consumption of our original content among platform users is very high. We must keep growing our subscriber base, and the only way to achieve that is by producing more content that attracts new audiences—always with the rigor and high standards that define us.”
Hugo Tomás, Director of Entertainment at Movistar Plus+: “Our dream is for Movistar Plus+ to become the home of entertainment, just as it already is for fiction and sports. We want to attract the best entertainment talent in Spain and make them feel at home. We will bet on big formats that generate major social buzz. Content will be our top priority: distinctive, impactful, and always true to the unique Movistar Plus+ stamp. We are already working on projects with leading names and hope to announce them soon.”
Enric Rojas, Director of Sports at Movistar Plus+: “Our strategy is to remain the home of sports, that endless stadium where any sports fan knows they can find everything they care about. Our job is not just to tell the stories, but to make people want to stay—and find it hard to leave. To that end, we have secured content for the country’s main sports communities: we continue to strengthen football, where we are an undisputed reference, we offer the best tennis with unique storytelling, and we have renewed EuroLeague basketball rights through 2032, among other agreements.”
Purificación González, CMO of Movistar Plus+: “Movistar Plus+ must take a different approach to attract new audiences, grounded in quality and creative risk. In this new stage, we consolidate our growth as Spain’s leading audiovisual platform in a year of successes that reinforce our role as the home of Spanish talent—starting with sports, continuing with fiction, and now aiming to stand out in entertainment. What matters is not just what you watch, but how we tell the story.”
