roduction has officially wrapped in Naples on Gomorrah - The Origins, the highly anticipated six-episode prequel to the iconic Sky Original crime saga, based on Roberto Saviano’s bestselling novel. Produced by Sky Studios and Cattleya, part of ITV Studios, the new series will exclusively debut on Sky and streaming service NOW in January 2026.
The series serves as a gripping origin story, charting the criminal rise of a young Pietro Savastano. The first four episodes are directed by Marco D’Amore—already an unforgettable face of Gomorrah – The Series—who also serves as artistic supervisor and co-writer. The final two episodes are directed by Francesco Ghiaccio (Dolcissime, A Safe Place).
Created by Leonardo Fasoli, Maddalena Ravagli, and Roberto Saviano, and distributed internationally by Beta Film, the series transports viewers back to 1970s Naples—a city in flux, scarred by poverty and the booming cigarette smuggling trade. The new cast includes many newcomers or early in their careers, adding a fresh authenticity to the series.
Luca Lubrano leads the cast as the young Pietro Savastano, portrayed here as an ambitious and restless street kid from Secondigliano, dreaming of a better future for himself and his friends.
SYNOPSIS
Set in 1977, GOMORRAH – THE ORIGINS follows a young Pietro, a boy with no family name, growing up as an adopted son in one of Secondigliano’s poorest neighborhoods. A street kid with limited prospects, Pietro dreams of a prosperity still out of reach. The series traces his loss of innocence alongside his lifelong friends and brothers, their ambitions, and Pietro’s first great love—wild and all-consuming, as it often is for teenagers. His fateful encounter with Angelo "A’ Sirena," the acting boss of Secondigliano, marks his entry into the criminal underworld. Through violence, shifting alliances, and betrayals, Pietro learns the hard way the true cost of the life he has chosen.
