Legendary director Martin Scorsese will attend the 71st edition of the Taormina Film Festival, held from June 10–14, marking his first-ever appearance at the prestigious Sicilian event.
Scorsese will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the iconic setting of the Ancient Theatre of Taormina. The festival will also host a special screening of his 1976 classic Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, and Harvey Keitel.
Festival Artistic Director Tiziana Rocca called Scorsese's presence “a dream come true,” highlighting his lasting impact on cinema and his commitment to preserving film heritage. “He is more than a director—he is a living legend,” she said.
Elvira Amata, Regional Councillor for Tourism, welcomed Scorsese to Sicily, calling it a moment of pride for the island and a powerful affirmation of its role in global culture.
The Taormina Film Festival is organized by the Fondazione Taormina Arte Sicilia with support from the Sicilian Region, the Sicilia Film Commission, the City of Taormina, and Italy’s Ministry of Culture.
