Nippon TV has announced that Medyapim, one of Turkey’s leading production companies, has completed production on the Arabic-language adaptation of Nippon TV’s acclaimed drama Mother. Titled “أُمي” (Oumi, meaning Mother in Arabic), the series will premiere on May 4, 2025, on MBC—the largest and most influential media group in the Middle East and North Africa—and will also be available for streaming on MBC’s global platform, Shahid.The announcement was jointly made by Keisuke Miyata, Head of Scripted Format Licensing at Nippon TV, and Fatih Aksoy, Chairman of Medyapim.
Originally broadcast on Nippon TV in Japan in 2010, Mother became a multi-award-winning hit and has since become the most internationally adapted scripted format from Asia, with 11 remakes worldwide. In addition to the Arabic version, the format has been licensed to Turkey, South Korea, Ukraine, Thailand, China, France, Spain, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Greece.The Turkish adaptation, Anne, co-produced by Medyapim and MF Yapim, became a global phenomenon, airing in nearly 50 territories. Medyapim also previously collaborated with MBC on two major drama series, including the Arabic version of BBC Studios’ Doctor Foster and the adaptation of their original Turkish drama War of the Roses.
