Sigourney Weaver Awarded Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at 81st Venice International Film Festival
Iconic American actress and three-time Academy Award nominee Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Gorillas in the Mist, Galaxy Quest) has been awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 81st Venice International Film Festival (August 28 – September 7, 2024).

The Biennale di Venezia board, following the proposal of Festival Director Alberto Barbera, made the decision.

Upon accepting, Weaver said, “I am truly honored to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the Biennale di Venezia. This award is a privilege I share with all the filmmakers and collaborators I have worked with throughout the years.”

Festival Director Alberto Barbera praised Weaver, stating, “Sigourney Weaver, with her significant theatrical training, became an emblematic figure of the 1980s, particularly through her role in Alien. She has continually challenged her persona through diverse roles, contributing to the success of directors like James Cameron, Paul Schrader, and Ang Lee. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement is just recognition for a star who has bridged art-house cinema and mainstream movies, always remaining true to herself.”
